Chester County author Bruce Mowday’s
four live event holiday schedule
Can’t attend, Mowday will provide signed copies of books for holiday gifts
WEST CHESTER _ A live arts event at The General Warren on November 19 with artist Adrian Martinez highlights Chester County author Bruce Mowday’s upcoming holiday book signings and talks.
“The restrictions necessitated by COVID has caused most of my events in 2020 to be cancelled. I’m pleased that four live appearances – all socially distanced – have been scheduled for the holiday season. So many members of the public are looking for safe ways to interact with each other during the holiday season. I’m pleased that I can participate in four such events,” said West Chester author Bruce Mowday.
The General Warren, 9 Old Lancaster Road, Malvern, is hosting Mowday and artist Adrian Martinez for a holiday event on Thursday, November 19 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Those attending will be able to talk with Martinez and Mowday and enjoy refreshments in the restaurant’s fine bar and restaurant. The paintings were transported out-of-state and hidden in the ground and in the back of old cars to avoid being discovered. Kuerner, the only painter taught by Andrew and Carolyn Wyeth, painted original works for the Gettysburg book and Mowday supplied the essays. “This is a unique book on Gettysburg,” Mowday said. “The historical and emotional aspects of Gettysburg are tied to Gettysburg today.”
Mowday will appear at East Brandywine’s holiday event on Saturday, December 5 at Bondsville Mill Park, 1647 Bondsville Road, Downingtown, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. On Thursday, December 10, Mowday will give a talk on his three Gettysburg books before the Ocean County New Jersey Civil War Round Table at 7:00 p.m. The venue is being finalized. Synopsis: In a series of historic vignettes that deftly combine the contemporary paintings of artist Karl J. Kuerner and the essays of Bruce E. Mowday explore the Civil War battlefield of Gettysburg in a way never before depicted in the pages of “Emotional Gettysburg: Paintings & Essays”.
For Karl, the spirit of art has spurred him to create a series of paintings that are peaceful and tranquil despite the death and destruction that took place here. Also, there are tears for those who sacrificed so much.
For Bruce, he calls upon his years of Civil War historical research to recount some of the heroic deeds of the conflict that threatened the very existence of the United States of America.
Ten of thousands of soldiers…. Ten of thousands of emotional stories each with a life of its own. So many stories will never be told, lost along with those who sacrificed their lives at Gettysburg during three days of July in 1863. What took place in Gettysburg, documented or not, forever will have profound meaning for Americans, a soul and a spirit.
Critique: A thoughtful, informative, beautifully enhanced, and moving volume, “Emotional Gettysburg: Paintings & Essays” is an extraordinary, unique, inherently fascinating, and unreservedly recommended contribution to personal, community, college, and university library American Civil War collections and supplemental studies reading lists.
Editorial Note: Bruce Mowday is an award-winning journalist who was given the Local Author Hero Award by the West Chester, Pennsylvania, library during its 2008 Literacy Heroes event at Longwood Gardens. Stealing Wyeth book by author Bruce E. Mowday
goes international with Great Britain book distributor
Mowday has presentations scheduled in Norwalk and Darien
NORWALK _ Stealing Wyeth, a book released by Barricade Books, is now being distributed in the United Kingdom, Europe and throughout the world by Turnaround Publisher Services.
Norwalk author Bruce E. Mowday said, “Stealing Wyeth has had great success since its release late last year. The true crime book tells the wild tale of the theft of 15 paintings from the estate of renown artist Andrew Wyeth, the band of criminals involved in the criminality and the law enforcement team.”
Turnaround Publisher Services is a trade distributor and all titles are available from many bookshop customers. Turnaround supplies shops throughout the United Kingdom, Europe and anywhere in the world.
Mowday, who has authored more than 20 books on true crime, history, business and sports, covered the Wyeth case as a newspaper reporter. The theft included the taking of seven paintings by Andrew Wyeth, six by his famous son Jamie and two others. The paintings are worth millions of dollars.
The book costs $24.95 and is available from the publisher and on the internet. For signed copies, contact Mowday at mowday@mowday.com.
In the coming weeks, Mowday has talks scheduled in four states, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Connecticut. Besides Stealing Wyeth, Mowday will be giving talks on his other true crime book, Jailing the Johnston Gang: Bringing Serial Murderers to Justice, and his history book, Emotional Gettysburg.
Mowday will be talking at the Norwalk Library, 1 Belden Avenue, on Sunday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m. on Emotional Gettysburg and his other Gettysburg books. The book highlights 20 paintings by Karl J. Kuerner, the only artist to be individually taught by Andrew Wyeth and his sister Carolyn. Mowday has written three books on the Civil War battle.
On April 28 at 7:00 p.m., Mowday will give a talk on Stealing Wyeth at the Darien Library, 1441 Post Road.
For all of the times and dates of his talks, go to the event section of his website, www.mowday.com. All of his books are listed on the website.
I’m now offering Three Views of Gettysburg as a program.
The Congress of Civil War Round Tables has named me a “5-Star” speaker.
My third book on Gettysburg – Emotional Gettysburg – was released by Regent Press of California this month. This book redefines Gettysburg, according to one reader. It’s a unique look at Gettysburg in history and today. Renowned artist Karl J. Kuerner, only artist taught by Andrew and Carolyn Wyeth, has created 20 original paintings and I’ve written 20 essays.
I’ve also written Pickett’s Charge: The Untold Story, published by Barricade Books of New Jersey. This book is the first one to concentrate on the Union soldiers that saved the nation on July 3, 1863. My J. Howard Wert’s Gettysburg, published by Schiffer Books of Pennsylvania, describes the largest private collection of artifacts from Gettysburg, including the podium used by Lincoln for the Gettysburg Address. Thousands of important historical items are included in the collection. The book also details the Wert family. Wert was a spy and scout for the Union at Gettysburg.
Three Views of Gettysburg combines the importance of the battle of Gettysburg, especially Pickett’s Charge, along with the artifacts.
I’ve also authored a fourth Civil War book on Fort Delaware.
I gave programs and dinner talks on all of my books. If any of my books are sold through the programs, sponsored historical events or ordered by members, I’ll return a portion of the sales to your organization.
Contact me at mowday@mowday.com for details and costs of programs.

Emotional Gettysburg, a unique look at the historic town of Gettysburg, has just been released by Regent Press of Berkeley, CA.
“This book is all about emotions,” said renowned artist Karl J. Kuerner. “The strong feelings emanating from the hallowed ground of Gettysburg is the foundation of this book. Few places exist in the world emit the sensitive energy that is found at Gettysburg.”
The book combines today’s rich landscapes with the Pennsylvania town’s Civil War history.
One reader wrote, “I just read Emotional Gettysburg cover to cover. There are thousands of books about Gettysburg, some are all text, some have photos. Photos rarely capture emotion. Karl’s paintings bring emotion and detail so much that I could feel the moment, smell the air and hear the sounds. Congratulations on creating a truly new vision of Gettysburg.”
Kuerner created 20 original paintings of Gettysburg combining today’s peaceful existence with the history of the pivotal battle of the American Civil War. Kuerner, who lives in Chadds Ford, PA, is the only artist to be personally tutored by the two members of the famous Wyeth family of artists, Andrew and Carolyn Wyeth, the children of world class artist and book illustrator N. C. Wyeth.
Kuerner enlisted award-winning reporter and author Bruce E. Mowday to write essays combining the history of the battle that preserved the United States with the painter’s impressions of Gettysburg today and in 1863. Mowday, a Chester County author living in Norwalk, CT, has authored more than 20 books, including three other books on the Civil War and two centered on Gettysburg, Pickett’s Charge: The Untold Story and J. Howard Wert’s Gettysburg.
Another reader wrote, “Thoroughly appreciating Emotional Gettysburg. It places you there with sadness over so many hopeful, dedicated, young lives snuffed out in a moment, forever gone, with the whisper of a bullet.”
The book is available to be purchased on the internet and through Regent Press at regentpress@mindspring.com. The cost of the book is $34.99. To purchase signed, first-edition copies of Emotional Gettysburg, contact Mowday at mowday@mowday.com.
“There are tens of thousands of soldiers. … Tens of thousands of stories. Each story has a life of its own,” Kuerner said. “Oh, so many stories will never be told. They are lost along with those who sacrificed their lives at Gettysburg. The residents of the small Pennsylvania town also made sacrifices and had their own stories to tell. Some are recorded and some are not. What took place in Gettysburg, documented or not, forever will have a profound meaning for Americans, a soul and a spirit.
“For me, the spirit is of art. That spirit has spurred me to create a series of paintings that is peaceful and tranquil despite the death and destruction that took place here. Also, there are tears for those who sacrificed so much.”
“These paintings of this ‘Hallowed Ground’ are only be a grain of sand in an ocean of inspiration, Kuerner said. “The subjects are in peace and are presented as such. Yes, the subject of this series is historical, but I hope the viewer will look at these paintings with a fresh eye and observe what they might normally just pass by without a second glance. I hope the fellows who fought here years ago, if they could reappear here today, would view these paintings and see the peace of an artist’s eye. For all of Gettysburg is a plethora of inspiration and we have our country to thank for that.”
