VALLEY FORGE _ Bruce E. Mowday was elected to the Board of Directors of the Valley Forge Park Alliance during last week’s board meeting.

Mowday, who resides in Downingtown, is an author, President of The Mowday Group, Inc. and a member of the board of the Chester County Conference and Visitors Bureau. He is past chair of the Chester County Historical Society and Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates.

“I was honored to be asked to join the board,” Mowday said. “Valley Forge is such a wonderful place and so important to our nation’s history. I’m looking forward to helping in any way I can.”

The Valley Forge Park Alliance works to advocate for Valley Forge National Historical Park, to enhance the visitor experience and to promote public appreciation of the Park’s historic, environmental and recreational resources.

DOWNINGTOWN _ Chester County author Bruce Mowday will speak on his book Pickett’s Charge: The Untold Story at the Chesapeake Beach Stars and Stripes Festival’s Honoring Our Fallen Heroes during Memorial Day weekend.

“The town’s Memorial Day festival is focusing on the Civil War this year,” Mowday said. “I was honored to be asked to give a presentation and sign books during the celebration.”

Mowday has written two books on the Civil War, including Pickett’s Charge and one on Fort Delaware. He is speaking on the Fort Delaware book tomorrow at a middle school in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

The town of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, is holding its 5th annual Memorial Day Festival. The festival’s mission is to “strive to educate our youth and our community on the true meaning of Memorial Day.” The event begins on Saturday, May28 at 10:00 a.m. with an Opening Ceremony at Chesapeake Beach Veterans’ Memorial Park.

Sunday, May 29 is All American Family Fun Day. Besides Mowday’s talk, Civil War era music and dancing will be offered and a performance of the third act of Our American Cousin will be done. The play was being performed when President Abraham Lincoln was shot at Ford’s theater in April 1865.

Pickett’s Charge: The Untold Story describes the Union defense of the famous Confederate charge during the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863. “The other books on the subject mostly focused on the Southern charge and not the Northern troops that saved the nation that day,” Mowday said.

Also this month, Mowday will be signing books at the Chester County Historical Society in West Chester from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, May 7. He will be giving a talk on his book Jailing The Johnston Gang: Bringing Serial Murderers To Justice on May 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Ware Presbyterian Village, Oxford.

DOWNINGTOWN _ Bruce Mowday, author of two books on the Civil War, has been invited to take part in three upcoming events in Gettysburg in the coming months, including Sunday when the organization takes part in a salute to volunteers.

“Association President Barb Mowery called this week and I was thrilled to be asked to take part,” Mowday said. “Besides the event for volunteers I’ll be signings at the group’s annual Civil War Collectors’ show in June and the three-day re-enactment in July.”

Mowday’s latest book is Pickett’s Charge: The Untold Story and his first book was Unlikely Allies: Fort Delaware’s Prison Community in the Civil War. A third book on the Civil War, J. Howard Wert’s Gettysburg, is scheduled for release by Schiffer Books in the coming months.

Mowday is also scheduled to talk and sign books at the Civil War event during Memorial Day weekend at Chesapeake Beach, Maryland.

DOWNINGTOWN _ Chester County author Bruce Mowday’s first talk of 2016 will take place at Washington Memorial Chapel, Valley Forge, on the Battle of Brandywine.

The talk is part of the Friends of Valley Forge National Historical Park and Washington Memorial Heritage’s speaker series. The talk, open to the public at no charge, will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the chapel on Route 23, Valley Forge.

Mowday will give a talk on his book September 11, 1777: Washington’s Defeat at Brandywine Dooms Philadelphia. The book took more than five years to research, including a trip to London to review records in the British Public Records Office and the British Army Museum. He also wrote on Brandywine and Germantown for Reporting The Revolutionary War: Before It Was History It Was News.
